HipChat – Group chat for teams App Reviews

Not made for iPad

This app is designed for small devices. On any device larger than an iPhone 6 most of the application is wasted space and the web browser provides a better user experience.

Bugs

Stops working when a room has a long chat history, also needs multiple account support.

Cant login!

I can log in online and on the Mac app. I cant log in the iOS app because it continues to give me an error that credentials are wrong. Deleting!

Lacking

Nice initial start, but app does not allow for multiple accounts and notifications often do not work

Wont Accept Credentials

I can log in to the website fine but the app doesnt accept my credentials. Shoddy.

Horrible App and Platform

The app is super buggy, doesnt notify you of half the chats you receive and has trouble connecting to the HipChat servers on a regular basis. Just use Slack!

Much better

Big improvements. Reconnects faster.

Great for team communication

HipChat enables my team to stay connected and be more productive.

Super nice

Such a great look! Love the new design and settings. Cant imagine getting all my work done without hipchat.

Getting better with each release

Latest version seems to be connecting to my pretty large team much faster than the last version. Thanks and keep it up!

Issue

How do I clear the cache on the app? I accidentally got a bug/virus on a site and now I cant even open any pages in Hipchat.

Unreliable notifications, Apple Watch app crashing

The notification system via Hipchat is seriously broken...for the majority of the time, I receive an email telling me Ive missed a message even while I am signed in to the Hipchat app. For the few times that I do receive a notification from the Hipchat app, when I open the app I dont see badges showing which conversation had the unread message. Thus, my conclusion that the app is super unreliable. On top of all of that, the Apple Watch app crashes every time I try to open it. Ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling but I still get a crashing app.

Nicely Done

HipChat has been an essential tool for getting stuff done. At its core is a chat app that just works. Once you start adding integrations, its even more powerful. It has more integrations available than competitors, which is great for us.

Loading messages...

Latest update seems to have the same issue as previous releases, it hangs and says "Loading messages..." Works great the first time I login, but if I close the app and go back into it later none of the history will load.

Not showing updates in the rooms

Still no indication on which room has an updated conversation. Just some more useless features. When icon is badged indicating activity there is no way to tell which conversation was updated, have to manually check every single one.

Notification on lock screen, but nothing in app

Receive notification of @mention on iPhone lock screen. But when you open Hipchat, no room has any listing of any number of @mention. So you have no idea in which room you were @mentioned. Then you have to go 1 by 1 in each room and figure it out yourself...

Horrible in-app notifications

Its great you send push notifications when app is not running. Its not great when I have the app open trying to find who just sent me a message, and theres no info whatsoever on new unread messages. This app makes me less inclined to use Hipchat to message people...

STILL unreliable

Notifications frequently dont work so I only know I have a chat from email. Then (crucially) when I go to the app it gives no indication how many new messages are there. At best itll indicate new messages from one person and then clear them all when I view the one. I havent even tried using it offline but Im not confident based on other reviews. Now I have 70+ unread notifications listed against people I havent chatted with for months, if all!

Dont do it!

The iOS app is just as bad as the new v4 desktop app (and the desktop app is next-to-useless). Notifications of new messages are little to non-existent. Ding you have a notification of a message. So you unlock your phone and go into the app. What? There is not a single sign of who just messaged you! You have to go back to your phones Notification Center, find the HipChat item and then see whom it was. Or page through all of your chats until you see something new! I would advise staying away from HipChat. Ive given them 3 years of my time and they have yet to impress me with a single update.

Notifications are horrendous

I use hipchat for work communication and I have never seen an app with such poor notifications. If the app has a badge indicating unread messages and you open the app you cannot see who messaged you. If you open the notification tray to at least see who it was you are chagrined to see that the notification disappears when you open the app. This has been happening for over a year and no fix from HC despite numerous reviews pointing out the same fatal flaw.
